Minutes of the Alpaca Research Foundation Meeting

January 7, 2008 

Present were Abe Rosenbloom, Karen Baum, Michelle Ing, Allan Dewald, Patricia Craven, Lisa Williamson, Patrick Long and Randy Larson.

The meeting was called to order at 9:06 pm ET.

Presidents Report: There was discussion of the progress of some grants. The ARI Strategic planning meeting in Las Vegas will be later this month. They have invited a representative from ARF. The speaker for the ARF Lecture at the AOBA Annual Conference will need to be selected soon.

Secretary’s Report: November 19 minutes were approved by Allan and seconded by Randy. Passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report: The report will be emailed to the BOD next week. The total donations to the grant account was $149,000 in 2007 with $4900 coming in through the credit card account. There was discussion of recognition of some people who have contributed greatly over the years to ARF. ARF received $2300 from ARI from the check-off for last quarter.

Pat is investigating enhancing the return on our grant account.

Development Committee Report: The affiliate appeals letter has been sent out. The Super Stud Raffle is proceeding.

MAF & LMRG Update: Allan brought us up to date on the activities at MAF. LMRG participants will pay $25 each to ILR for the conference calls. Allan moved to send $50 for each call (two participants) and Patricia seconded.

ARF Sponsored Scientific Meeting 2008: Patricia discussed the progress of a meeting on camelid genetics. The invited speakers have been contacted. It will be February 22-24, 2008 in Scottsdale, AZ. The abstracts and agenda will be on the website.

Twenty four preproposals were reviewed.

The next meeting will be on Monday at 9:00 ET on February 18, 2008.

Karen moved to adjourn and Allan seconded.
